Over time, all central heating systems accumulate sludge which can seriously affect their efficiency, and therefore increase the costs of running it.
Power flushing is the term used for cleaning a central heating system using water at high velocity but low pressure so that no physical damage is caused. The aim of a power flush is to restore the full circulation of water around the central heating system.
There are a number of signs that you may need a power flush – these include:
- The slow warming of the heating system
- Excessive noise from the boiler or heating system pump
- Cold areas on radiators
- Discoloured water when you bleed the radiators
- Water fluctuating between hot and cold
It is also recommended that the power flush process is carried out if you intend to connect a new boiler to an old heating system. This is because any contaminants already present in the heating system can quickly damage the internal pipework of the new boiler.
